SPY is an exchange-traded fund designed to track the S&P 500 Index, which represents many of the largest publicly traded U.S. companies.
Buying SPY gives you exposure to all of those companies through one fund instead of requiring you to buy every stock separately.

How Weighting Works
SPY is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. A larger company weight means a larger effect on the fund for the same percentage price move.

How Combo weights are calculated
For a ticker in both lists, add its SPY and QQQ weights. For a ticker in only one list, double that available weight. Divide each raw weight by the sum of all raw weights, then multiply by 100.
Combo weights describe the research universe, not a fund holding or a portfolio allocation.

Show Combo Universe Weighted Order
Ranking as of 2026-09-28 · Source fund weights and Combo weights are different measures.
Company size helps determine how much influence a stock has in an index. TickerScope blends leading holdings from SPY and QQQ into one universe for research and comparison.
How this becomes the TickerScope Combo universe
Start with the leading holdings. Take the top 100 holdings by weight from SPY and from QQQ.
Merge the ticker lists. Keep each ticker once, including those present in both funds. Overlap means the combined list can contain fewer than 200 tickers.
Blend the weights. Add both source weights when a ticker appears in both lists; double its available weight when it appears in only one. Rescale the resulting weights so the Combo total is 100%.
In TickerScope: choosing Combo SPY-QQQ gives a study this shared candidate pool. The selected study then applies its own rules to evaluate and rank those tickers.
A company’s share price multiplied by its outstanding shares: the market value of its equity.
Market-cap weighting
Larger companies generally receive greater weight. SPY follows a float-adjusted approach, based on shares available to investors; QQQ follows a modified approach with limits on concentration.
Index weight
A holding’s percentage of the index. At a 5% weight, a 1% stock move contributes roughly 0.05 percentage points to the index, with other holdings unchanged.
ETF and ticker
An ETF is a fund traded on an exchange. SPY tracks the S&P 500; QQQ tracks the Nasdaq-100. A ticker is the trading symbol used to identify a holding.
Universe
The pool of tickers a study can examine. Selecting a universe sets the candidates that TickerScope can screen and compare.
Combo weight
TickerScope’s blended weight derived from the source ETF weights. It describes a ticker’s place in the Combo universe; study scores and portfolio allocations are determined separately.
